Buddha Dhamma and Science
Daw Oo Oo Myint, Professor and Head, Department of Geography, Lashio Unversity

Abstract :        Astronomy, one of the branch of Mathematics had been proved that the earth and the sun lies on same plane in the  space. At night, if you look at the upper atmosphere, many stars are brightly technical colour in the sky. In practical, the stars are family of a glaxy and a star is a family of universe with planets. The stars are very far away from our earth, so you see the stars are like particles. That is truth in the speech of Buddha Dhamma .

A Philosophical Study on Greek Political Philosophy
U Sint, Lecturer, Department of Philosophy, Lashio University.

Abstract : Man is a rational animal, social animal and political animal. Man is not an island or isolated animal so each is participating to human affairs as he can do. In the primitive time, man like the other creatures, lived at the mercy of nature and developed in accordance with the law of natural evolution. Man began to investigate nature, learn her laws, bring her powers under his control and utilize her resources.  So man began to question his intellectual beliefs and his social customs and institutions. As the outcomes of this process, political thought arose. Finally, man became conscious of the state, government and law and made attempt to explain the nature of political phenomena.

EFFECT OF SPIRULINA ON THE GERMINATION AND GROWTH OF WHEAT
Dr Win Naing Oo, Lecturer, Department of Botany, Lashio University.

Abstract : The effect of Spirulina on the germination and growth of wheat was studied by using Spirulina powder, culture in laboratory condition. The Spirulina powder 10% was the best for the germination of wheat seeds (96.6%) and Spirulina powder 8% was enhanced the best shoot growth of wheat (2.32 cm) and root growth fresh (weight 1.1 g) at ten days after sowing. Spirulina powder 14% treatment was the best enhanced water drought resistance capacity for wheat seedling after three weeks studied. These results were showed that Myanmar Spirulina actually promotes the germination, shoot height, root growth and water drought resistance capacity of wheat.

STRATIGRAPHY OF THE WEBAUNG - THITSEINGON AREA, MOMEIK TOWNSHIP, NORTHERN SHAN STATE
Dr Tin Myo Myo Htwe, Lecturer, Department of Geology, Lashio University

Abstract : The research area falls within the western part of Momeik Township. Geotectonically, the study area occupies in the boundary area between the Mogok metamorphic belt (MMB) and the Tagaung - Myitkyina belt (TMB). This area is cut across by east-west trending Momeik fault. The southern part of Momeik fault is characterized by MMB, consisting of biotite gneiss, calc-silicate and a variety of marble and its related granitic rocks. The general trend of these rocks is nearly NE-SW direction and dipping towards northwest. The metamorphic rocks exposed north of Momeik fault consist of phyllite, schist, amphibolite, diopside calc-silicate, leucogneiss and the gabbroic rock intruding schist unit. The general trend is NE-SW and dipping towards southeast. Serpentinite and basalt are also exposed in this part. Moreover, gritty sandstone crops out in this part. Structurally, to the east of the study area, the distinguishing and traceable major linearments are bending in sigmoid form.

The Correlation between Solar Ultraviolet Irradiance and Illuminance
by Means of Solar Zenith Angles in Lashio, Myanmar
Dr Kyaw Thiha, Demonstrator, Physics Department, Lashio University

Abstract : This paper examines the relationship between solar ultraviolet irradiance and illuminance received on the ground surface for Lashio, in Northern Shan state, Myanmar. The empirical models are also developed with regression equations to predict the solar ultraviolet radiation (Iuv) based on measured sun position values. These measurements are taken daily in an equinox. The value of the mean bias error (MBE), mean square error (RMSE) and mean percentage error root (MPE) were determined for the equation. The values of the correlation coefficient (r) and coefficient of determination (R2) were also determined for each equation. The equation with the highest values of r, R2 and at least values of RMSE, MBE and MPE is given as Iuv = 22.49 e-0.0152 θz – 6.321 named as a natural exponent model where θz is solar zenith angle. The relationships between solar ultraviolet irradiance and illuminance were found to be a linear equation which was sufficient, i.e. no significant improvement was obtained using a quadratic equation. The results obtained show a remarkable agreement between the measured and the predicted values using our proposed models.
Key words: Regression coefficient, zenith angle, site specific models, Lashio.

Empirical Modeling of Hourly Direct Irradiance by Means of Ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) and  the Corresponding Illuminance for Lashio, Myanmar

Kyaw Thiha  and Swe Swe Thant
Abstract : Information of local solar radiation is of great significance for solar energy systems. Unfortunately, many developing nations’ solar radiation measurements data are not easily available; therefore, it is important to elaborate methods to estimate the solar radiation based on readily available meteorological data. The objective leading to this paper is to continue in the effort to calibrate some empirical models available in literature and develop some new models for estimating hourly global solar radiation on a horizontal surface in Lashio city, Northen Shan State, Myanmar, using relative humidity, sunshine hours and temperature measured data. This paper examines the statistical relationships between the hourly radiation intensity values of both ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) and illuminance, and of the corresponding global radiation using the mean bias error (MBE), root mean square error (RMSE) and mean percentage error (MPE) statistical techniques. The values of the correlation coefficient (R) and coefficient of determination (R2) were also determined for each equation.

Analysis of the UV Protection in some Skin Lotions

Yin Mon Kyaw  and Kay Thi Thin
Abstract : Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The biological effects of UV radiation vary enormously with wavelength and for this reason the UV spectrum is subdivided into three regions: UVA, UVB and UVC. UV light is particularly concerned with wavelength or type because it can interact with skin cell and cause a variety of damaging effects. In this research six types of UV protection skin lotion cream are analysed for its quality of UV protection. These creams are wipped on glass slices and the UV rays are measured with UV513AB (General) digital light meter by putting under the glass slices in Sun light. Measurements were done by month by month at Lasio University Compus. According to the analysis, greater the sun protection factor (SPF) skin lotion cream is more effective in the protection of UV radiation.

Empirical Modelling for Solar Ultraviolet Irradiance (UVA and UVB) in Lashio

Kyaw Thiha , Kay Thi Thin
Abstract : In this paper, models are developed with regression equations to predict the solar ultraviolet radiation (Iuv) based on measured sun position values for Lashio, in Northern Shan state, Myanmar. These measurements are taken daily in an equinox. The value of the mean bias error (MBE), mean square error (RMSE) and mean percentage error root (MPE) were determined for the equation. The values of the correlation coefficient (r) and coefficient of determination (R2) were also determined for each equation. The equation with the highest values of r, R2 and at least values of RMSE, MBE and MPE is given as Iuv = 22.49 e-0.0152z – 6.321 named as a natural exponent model where z is solar zenith angle. The results obtained show a remarkable agreement between the measured and the predicted values using our proposed models.

The Potential Energy at the Touching Configuration for Heavy Ion Fusion

Kyaw Thiha , Su Su Aung  and  Khin San
Abstract : In this project the potential energy at the touching configuration for heavy-ion reaction using various potential models is systematically evaluated. These potential models are the Krappe-Nix-Sierk (KNS) the proximity, and the simple analytical potential of mean field description. We have shown that the potential energy at the touching point strongly correlates with the threshold incident energies for the steep falloff of the fusion cross sections. The difference between Es and VKNS is indeed smaller than the difference between Es and Vmf was observed.

Abstract : The four experiments described in this paper which provide students the opportunity to study the light intensity and luminous. The first of these experiments is the measurement of the illuminations and changes of the amount of light with the different colour of wax papers (yellow, red, blue and green) and changes with several thicknesses of the papers. The second one is the measurement of the illumination of the light which passes through the various colours of the glass slabs. The third experiment is the determinations of the light intensity of the light source (LED tough) which varies with the source to meter distances and collimator effect. In this case the four types of collimator and various lengths of collimators are used. The forth experiment is the LED lamps which require less power to produce the same level of brightness as an incandescent lamp. Lux meter (model LT300), EXTECH instrument, is used to measure the illumination of the light in all measurements. So these experiments describe the applications of the light meter.

Nilar Aung , Kay Thi Thin
Abstract : There are about 90 hot springs in Myanmar. Lashio, Kyaukme and Thein Ni hot springs in Northern Shan State are the well known hot springs among them. Water samples and sediment samples were collected two times (in summer and winter). In summer people rarely go to these springs but in winter most people go to the hot spring. It is very crowded at this time. Sediment samples and water samples are collected from different locations in hot spring area. In the present work, the elements contained in the water and sediment samples from these three hot springs were analysed by EDXRF method. The gamma activities are also measured to investigate the radionuclides in the sediment samples by using NaI(Tl) gamma ray spectrometer. From the analysis results we have known the element concentrations in the sediments and water samples from Lashio, Kyaukme and Thein Ni hot spring areas. Ca, Fe, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mn, Zn and Ti elements were found in water samples and Ca, Fe, Mn, Sr, Ti, Cu, Zn, Zr, Si, K, P, S and As were found in the sediment samples. But P, As and S concentrations are small amount found in sediment samples.

Glue-like Role of  Hyperon on Neutron Drip Line

Myaing Thi Win
Abstract : I study the effect of strange  hyperon on neutron drip line nuclei. For this purpose, I calculate the neutron single particle energies and neutron Fermi energy for Ne isotopes and their corresponding A+Ne isotopes by employing the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory for axially deformed nuclei. Due to the glue-like role property of  hyperon to the nuclear core, the last bound isotope of Ne in neutron drip line is extended from 36Ne to Ne with NL3 parameter set.  Without the , 38Ne is unbound. I also discuss that the results depend on the choice of RMF parameter sets.
Effects of Different Potential Models for the 16O+144,154Sm Fusion Reactions

Kyaw Thiha , Nyein Wint Lwin
Abstract : Fusion cross sections are evaluated by numerically solving the Schro ̈dinger equation within these above potentials under the incoming wave boundary conditions. Four versions of proximity potentials, three versions of Woods-Saxon parameterizations and a simple analytical fusion potential from the mean field description are employed. The fusion barrier heights and positions are also evaluated for asymmetry colliding systems. Coupled-channels calculations are also performed for 16O+144,154Sm systems. It is found that Prox 10, all versions of Woods-Saxon potentials and mean field potentials can reproduce the experimental barrier heights and barrier positions within ±5% for most of the colliding systems. The percentage deviations for other potentials vary up to ±14%. We can say that the largest deviation is found for the system, 40Ca+124Sn with largest charge product for most of the potentials. The comparison of fusion cross sections reveals that mean field potential reproduces the experimental data better than other potentials at energies above and below the Coulomb barrier.

RITZ METHOD AND FAMILY METHOD FOR TIME DEPENDENT PROBLEMS

Myint Theingi

Abstract : In this paper we deal with combination of two methods to determine approximate solution of time dependent problems. In the finite element solution of time dependent problems we assume that the nodal variables are functions of time. In this way, we can solve time dependent problems whose solutions can be represented as a product of a time function and a spatial function.
